Basic Pottery: Forms and Surface
Develop simple functional forms — including spouts and handles — through wheel throwing, slab, and coil construction. This workshop will also cover some surface design techniques for functional porcelain pieces, including painting/slip alpaca, screen printing, and stamping.
“My practice is a constant exploration of the act of repetition, making series, groups, and multiples in different themes and variations. The slight variation between the repeated elements draws the viewer in as they discover the unexpected in the familiar. By using the same elements to build new forms each time, I create a physical manifestation of an object and time to explore personal negotiation and the solace of daily rituals.
Currently I am working with delicate pinched coils of colored porcelain that are combined to create lines and a sort of strata that is at the core for my sculptures and images. Combining materials with different densities, like photographs, thread, and porcelain, contrasts each element to the next in color or texture.”

Originally from Chihuahua Mexico, Flor Widmar is a ceramic artist who has exhibited her sculptural installations both nationally and internationally. She earned her BFA in Ceramics from Sierra Nevada College and her MFA from Cranbrook Academy of the Arts. She has most recently shown at the Weston Gallery in Cincinnati Ohio, and the Korean Ceramic Biennale Gyeonggi, and has has exhibited internationally in Denmark, Japan and The United States. She has completed Artist in Residencies at Guldagergaard International Ceramic Research Center in Denmark and the Penland School of Arts and Crafts. Her work has been published in “Experience Clay” by Maureen Mackey.
Currently she is on the ceramics and 3D faculty in the Art Department at Emporia State University.
