The allure of Tahoe brought me here. I grew up in Maui, Hawai’i, which is a different kind of beauty, and I fell in love with the SNC campus when I first visited. My favorite thing to do here was to sit near my window, enjoy the scenery, and read. For a time, I didn’t know what I wanted from school; I was just going through the motions, you know?
I became an Assistant Editor with the Sierra Nevada Review literary journal, and travelled to conferences with the English Department. My professors are mentors who make you work for what you want, and because of that, I’ve explored options that I would have missed out on otherwise. They’ve challenged me academically, and cared about me when life threw up obstacles. I fell in love with my studies, and I can’t thank them enough for it.
When I’m done with my undergraduate, I’m going to work toward grad school, and maybe even a little writing. I love reading, writing, and language, but I can also apply English to teaching, publishing, marketing, etc. An English major balances passion and practicality; I try not to limit myself!
