Librarian (PT)

Experienced Librarian for Part-time Position (flexible 20 hours per week)

Duties include maintaining the collections, overseeing the campus library, preparing and managing budgets, managing textbook check out, and teaching classes in library research. Online library catalog/library databases proficiency is preferred. Faculty appointment teaching English composition is possible for qualified candidates. Teaching responsibilities would increase position to .75 time and include benefits eligibility. Would consider a 9 month appointment under some circumstances.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Reference service for SNC students and faculty
    • Conduct reference interview to determine patron’s information needs
    • Assist students and faculty with research using appropriate tools and materials
    • Support interlibrary loan service
  • Provide Library Information Literacy Instruction to classes
    • Coordinate and plan library information literacy instruction with faculty
    • Provide library information literacy instruction to students when requested
  • Circulation
    • Provide back-up service for student circulation staff
    • Establish work procedures for student circulation staff
  • Collection Maintenance
    • Catalog new materials and maintain electronic library catalog/circulation
    • Prepare book and material orders
    • Selection appropriate materials to meet the academic needs of students and faculty
  • Library Routines
    • Assist in the development and revision of library policies and procedures
    • Help compile data for internal and external reports
    • Participate in hiring and supervision of student library staff
    • Maintain and manage library budget
    • Participate in local and regional library groups as appropriate
Desired Qualifications:
  • Accredited library science master’s degree or equivalent experience, preferably in an academic library
  • Knowledge of modern library principles, methods, material and practices
  • College teaching and academic library experience
  • Proficiency with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to manage the library’s operating budget
  • Ability to speak comfortably and effectively in public
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing
  • Flexibility in thinking
  • Good listening skills
