Smith  \nThis exhibition focuses on recalibration as it relates to the interweaving of conceptual practices and personal trajectories. The works included\, both within and beyond their materiality\, locate meaning in moments of fallibility or fracture. The works activate multiple dialogues at once\, rebounding and deflecting off each other\, their physical environment\, and the engagement of the viewer. What emerges within this spectrum of discourse is an emphasis on strategies of memory and identity\, which underscore the process of calling on the uncertain\, forgotten\, or erased. \nKara Q. Smith is a professional in the contemporary art world. She has spent the last 13 years working for museums\, galleries\, and non-profit institutions. She has curated exhibitions\, spoken at art fairs and symposiums\, officiated workshops and lectures\, and written for numerous publications. Throughout her career she has preferenced community-engaging projects and artists who both normalize and complicate notions of identity and place. \nReception: Thursday\, February 6\, 5 – 7 pm\nCurator Talk: Saturday\, January 4\, 7 pm URL:https://www.sierranevada.edu/event/a-series-of-ricochets/ LOCATION:Garage Door Gallery\, Holman Arts & Media Center CATEGORIES:Alumni,Art,Community,Exhibition,Faculty,Graduate,Student,Undergrad ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/jpeg:https://www.sierranevada.edu/wp-content/uploads/between_a_rock_and_a_home_place-small-420.jpg END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;VALUE=DATE:20200107 DTEND;VALUE=DATE:20200201 DTSTAMP:20240328T110320 CREATED:20191212T215408Z LAST-MODIFIED:20200121T180953Z UID:199078-1578355200-1580515199@www.sierranevada.edu SUMMARY:"Dwelling" DESCRIPTION:Artists: Dwayne Bandy\, Scott McPheeters\, Megan Ping \nDwelling is a series of relational experiments and objects that culminate in one collaboratively produced environment. As an exhibition\, “Dwelling” (a double entendre for both the act of longing and a domestic setting)\, explores the risk and reward of communicating our desires\, be they romantic\, community-based\, or things that can only exist in dreams. \nReception: Tuesday\, January 7\, 5 – 6 pm\nArtist Talk: 6 pm URL:https://www.sierranevada.edu/event/dwelling/ LOCATION:Tahoe Gallery\, Prim Library\, 3rd Floor CATEGORIES:Alumni,Art,Community,Exhibition,Faculty,Graduate,Undergrad ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/png:https://www.sierranevada.edu/wp-content/uploads/dwelling-dwayne_bandy-scott_mcpheeters-megan_ping-420.png END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
