The natural world inspires feelings of joy\, fear\, humility\, nostalgia\, and astonishment. Rather than being defeated by the inadequacy of my ability to communicate the weight of these experiences\, I chose to create art that captures the feeling of a memory. I can conceptualize it through my art practice. Through non-specific representation of my thought process\, I have given an intentional importance to the specificity of place\, time\, and emotion. This heightened sense of awareness in confluence with a desire to capture a fleeting moment is the driving force behind why I create art. These pieces are essentially self-portraits where I explore the powerful emotions I can feel when in an outdoor setting.” \nEmily grew up in the small mountains of New Hampshire and came to Sierra Nevada University in 2018 to study Outdoor Adventure Leadership and Art. She spends her time exploring the natural world with the people she loves\, and plans to continue her education in the future. In the meantime\, you can find Emily on the river.
