Chairman Lalchandani Announces Retirement of SNC Tahoe President
Dear students, parents, alumni, and friends of SNC Tahoe,
Today, SNC Tahoe and President Alan Walker announced Dr. Walker’s plans to retire at the end of this academic year — May 26, 2019. Over the past four years, Dr. Walker has made significant contributions to our college and community. Dr. Walker chose to make his announcement after graduation ceremonies, so as not to draw attention away from this seminal event for our students.
I speak for the entire Board of Trustees in thanking Dr. Walker. We wish Alan and Debbie a long, healthy, and meaningful retirement. Rest assured our Board has planned not only a smooth transition, but a transition intended to build upon recent progress made by the college.
In that vein, I proudly announce that your SNC Tahoe Board of Trustees has appointed Dr. Ed Zschau as Interim President. I am confident Dr. Zschau’s unique and extensive experience in academia, business and entrepreneurship, and public service will be invaluable assets as we continue to drive the college’s mission and vision forward.
Please read the entire press release for details regarding Dr. Walker’s contributions over the past four years as well as information on Dr. Zschau’s impressive credentials. Briefly, you’ll find Dr. Zschau’s accomplishments to include:
- Academics: he has taught at the business schools at Stanford and Harvard; and at the engineering schools at Princeton, Caltech, and University of Nevada Reno.
- Business: he led technology companies for 17 years. He founded Systems Industries in 1969, leading to a successful IPO in 1980. In the 1990s, he served as General Manager of IBM’s System Storage Division.
- Public service: he was twice elected to the United States House of Representatives, representing the Silicon Valley district of California.
Dr. Zschau earned his AB in Philosophy at Princeton, followed by MBA, MS, and PhD degrees at Stanford. He resides in Genoa, Nevada. Ed so believes in the future of this college and region that he has insisted on serving as a volunteer during the search for the next college president.
A careful search for the next permanent president of SNC Tahoe will commence immediately. Look for more communications over the coming weeks with updates regarding the search committee formation and search process.
The Eagles continue to fly high, and fly fast! The best is yet to come. Thank you for your support.
Chairman, Board of Trustees
