Digital Animation and Effects

Workshop DescriptionThis course will guide students through multiple approaches to digital animation and moving image effects. Learn how to composite and animate photographs, drawings, and other still images, as well as create compelling moving compositions from scratch using Adobe After Effects. Lectures and demonstrations will demystify the world of digital animation and effects using surprisingly approachable tools. Keyframing, Rotoscoping, Masking, Chromakey (green screen), and other techniques will be covered. Students will have the opportunity to explore multiple workflows and styles, produced finished work, and learn cutting edge methods for display. No prior computer experience is required, though familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud will be beneficial. |

BIO Tyler Brownlow-Calkin is an interdisciplinary artist and educator. He received his MFA in Art and Integrated Media from the California Institute of the Arts in 2011. His work has been exhibited and performed in art and educational institutions around the world, including in Italy, South Korea, China, Nepal, Mexico, Germany, England, and the United States. Brownlow-Calkin is an Assistant Professor of Art and the head of Digital Media at the University of Nevada, Reno. At UNR he teaches 2D, 3D and 4D digital subject matter including video and animation, 3D modeling, virtual and augmented reality, game design, experimental fabrication, creative coding, theory, and critique.
