The subject of this two day workshop will focus on teapot making and its cultural aesthetic considerations. As a potter from Taiwan, Po-Ching will first introduce the tea culture and tea ware in Taiwan, which includes its inferences and development from his viewpoint as an artist. The studio based workshop will demonstrate how he makes a teapot and explains its functionality with aesthetic consideration. The participants will also make their own teapot/s. This workshop requires basic throwing and handbuilding pottery making techniques.
Po-Ching Fang is an Assistant Professor at the well respected Tainan National University of the Arts in Taiwan. He has a D.F.A. from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in Australia, and an M.F.A. from Tainan National College of the Arts, Taiwan. His exquisite work has been highly regarded in Taiwan, as he was the ceramist representative at The Forum on Contemporary Ceramics of Cross Strait at the Yingge Ceramics Museum in Taipei. Po-Ching’s work has been internationally acclaimed as well, being included in numerous prestigious exhibitions in Australia, Korea, China, Malaysia, Belgium, Czech Republic, Canada, and the US. His work was reviewed in New Ceramics, and Ceramics Monthly. Po-Ching has lectured and taught workshops globally.
