Summer Art Workshop Registration

July 25-29

Introduction to Laser and Light

All skill levels

Learn the process of design and fabrication using a CO2 laser cutter, in a fusion of digital art and sculpture. Students will have the opportunity to work with a variety of programs, materials, and tools to create 3D objects from flat planes such as plywood. We will explore negative space and light sources to create intricate lamps capable of filling a room with light and shadow.

Erik Burns has been the owner and operator of Saber Laser Works LLC, based in the Lake Tahoe area, since 2018. There he designs, fabricates, and assembles intricate laser-cut sculptures and lighting fixtures. His designs are inspired by the play between light and shadow both in nature and in the manufactured world. Erik utilizes a workflow that blends digital art and technology with more traditional woodworking and sculptural practices.
