Focusing primarily on progressive, emerging artists … the galleries at Sierra Nevada College provide a rich visual and intellectual environment not reliant on sales for support. This allows us to exhibit a wide array of artists whose work ranges from traditional practices to new media, installation, site-specific, and performance art.

“Once Upon a Ride”

April 4 - April 26

Garage Door Gallery

Artist Natalya Burd has an exhibition at SNC Tahoe's Garage Door Gallery

Artist: Natalya Burd

Reception: Thursday April 4, 5 – 7 pm
Artist Talk: 5:30pm, Garage Door Gallery

In this new body of work, Burd reflects on the relativity of time, space and light. By using iridescent paint mediums and playing with the reflective quality of plexiglass and mirrors, she pushed the boundaries of flat surfaces, creating a shimmering atmosphere that evokes the gleams of fleeting moments in time.

Natalya Burd is a San Jose, CA. based visual artist. She is the recipient of the Silicon Valley Creates Emerging Artist Award in 2016, and the Djerassi Artist Residency in 2017. She has had one and two-person exhibitions at the Jack Fischer Gallery (San Francisco, CA), Cabrillo Gallery (Cabrillo College, CA), Sarah Spergeon Gallery (Central Washington University, Ellensburg, WA) Art Object Gallery (San Jose, CA), and Wiseman Gallery (Grants Pass, OR). She has participated in numerous group shows in USA, Germany and Russia. Burd is represented by the Jack Fischer Gallery in San Francisco. In her current work, she is depicting the relationship between the natural world and human history.

Burd was born in Bishkek, Kirghizia, which at the time was a republic of the USSR. After graduation with distinction from the Kirghiz State College of Art and later The Stroganov Moscow State Academy of Arts and Industry (Monumental Painting and Decorative and Applied Glass), she emigrated to the US in 1996. She made her way to the Pacific Northwest where she earned a BFA from Oregon State University, followed by an MFA from the University of Washington.
