The Tahoe Center for Environmental Sciences (TCES) represents a distinctive partnership between public and private institutions of higher education in two states, including Sierra Nevada University, the University of California, Davis (UC Davis), the Desert Research Institute (DRI) and the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR). TCES is both a world-class center for scientific research in the understanding of alpine lakes and the preservation of the environmental quality of such important resources, and an award-winning showcase of platinum LEED certified design. As part of our environmental science college curriculum, our students will have access to the TCES that will allow them to flourish both as a student and in their future endeavors. The programs and facilities at TCES contribute substantially to SNU Tahoe’s position as one of the west’s premier environmental science colleges and universities.
Through UC Davis, the TCES also houses the UC Davis Tahoe Science Center in the main atrium area on the first floor. Educational exhibits at the center focus on a sixth grade audience, but also provide something for all ages. Exhibits provide information about why Lake Tahoe is unique and how science and research have been used, and continue to be used, to restore and protect Lake Tahoe for future generations.
