About Sierra Nevada University

Sustainability, Liberal Arts, Professional Preparedness, and Entrepreneurial Thinking

Welcome to Life-Changing Learning

There’s nothing passive or conventional about life at SNU. Our status as Nevada’s only accredited, private, four-year institution, and our location high in the Sierra, on the shores of legendary Lake Tahoe, all but guarantee that.

Action is in our DNA. Everything we do is dedicated to moving lives and learning forward, to engaging students and helping them become confident, collaborative critical thinkers who are uniquely prepared to thrive in the real world. Four core themes define us: Entrepreneurial Thinking, Professional Preparedness, Liberal Arts, and Sustainability. And we bring these themes to life for every student through active learning processes that foster problem solving, teamwork, and innovation. It’s a culture of competition where students learn to think on their feet, to communicate persuasively, and become active participants in their education.

Live, Learn Lake Tahoe

At Sierra Nevada University, we are committed to active learning.

Your education is a collaborative partnership between you, your teachers, and the College as a whole. Real learning comes when you are fully engaged in your own education – not passively sitting in a lecture hall taking notes for the next exam. At SNU Tahoe, we spend an enormous amount of time thinking about how to make learning come alive for each of you, and to fully prepare you for the lifetime of opportunities and challenges that you will have after you leave here.

Our Mission

Our mission statement was created through a collaboration of campus leadership and faculty to guide and inform the values and goals of our college.
It affirms the commitment of our faculty, staff, students, and community members to providing an education of the highest possible quality:

Sierra Nevada University graduates will be educated
to be scholars of and contributors to a sustainable world.
Sierra Nevada University combines the liberal arts and professional preparedness
through an interdisciplinary curriculum that emphasizes entrepreneurial thinking
and environmental, social, economic and educational sustainability.
