Jenn Sheridan, Outdoor Adventure Leadership and Journalism major, skis in the rocky back country

Major: Interdisciplinary Studies in Outdoor Adventure Leadership and Journalism

Class of: 2013

Jenn Sheridan has leveraged her experience in ODAL and Journalism at SNC Tahoe into a career which encompasses both her passions. She is the current associate editor at the Tahoe Weekly, which covers “events, live music & entertainment, outdoor & recreation, food & wine, arts, shopping & sightseeing in Truckee and Tahoe.” She also manages an international team of ambassadors for Coalition Snow, a Tahoe company run for women by women, which makes “women’s skis and snowboards that don’t suck.”

Jenn Sheridan, Outdoor Adventure Leadership and Journalism major, rests in snow fort “I’ve always had a passion for writing and being outdoors, so being able to combine the two was really exciting.”

Jenn’s experience working on SNC’s student run newspaper, the Eagles’s Eye, taught her how to function under the pressure of multiple deadlines and navigate the newsroom atmosphere – and of course, gave her lots of writing practice. The skill sets she gained in ODAL training have been particularly valuable keeping her Coalition Snow ambassadors organized, safe, and informed during their travels and adventures. Jenn credits her professors and mentors – Rosie Hacket, Katie Zanto, and Tanya Canino – for encouraging her to apply for internships which pushed her to experiment with endeavors outside her comfort zone.

“Ultimately, my experience at SNC helped me tackle difficult projects and gain new experiences and knowledge.”

Sheridan has already published several independent articles with TGR and Power Magazine, and hopes to continue her journalism career with more freelance work. She is excited to see where her roles at the Tahoe Weekly and Coalition Snow and her freelance writing can take her.
