SNC Instructor’s Magical Underwater Photography
Journalist and photographer Dylan Silver has been been swimming and snorkeling in Lake Tahoe since he was eight. Several times a month for the past few years he has slipped into a wetsuit, booties and gloves to dive into Lake Tahoe, underwater camera in hand, for his ongoing photographic series “Tahoe Clarity.” Silver is exploring the entire circumference of the lake with his camera, from delicate refracted light underwater shots to curling waves frozen in time against the shoreline. The entire series can be viewed at www.tahoeclarity.com, where you can also read about his latest dives and purchase prints.
“Taking pictures of water is unlike other photography because it’s very serendipitous. The water moves so quickly, with a camera you can capture moments of movement that you don’t even realize are happening.”
Silver, who will be teaching Multimedia Journalism at SNC in spring ’17, has written more than 500 articles about the Lake Tahoe region. His work has appeared in Tahoe Magazine, Lake Tahoe Action, the Tahoe Daily Tribune, Outsideonline.com, Mens Journal and Teton Gravity Research among other publications.
He is a contributing editor for Tahoe Quarterly Magazine, a regular columnist for Gannett Company’s Reno.com, author of South Tahoe Standup Paddle’s The Weekly Paddle Report, a photographer for Tandem Stills + Motion and a graduate student of journalism at the University of Nevada, Reno.
Beyond the Tahoe area, he has chased waves on the edges of remote Indonesian islands and sailed across the Pacific in a small boat. The natural world is his playground, sanctuary and passion.
