V.P. for Academic Extension

SNC Tahoe seeks an entrepreneurial, innovative, and collaborative leader to serve as the inaugural Vice President for Academic Extension. This newly created executive position leads the development of a new, financially self-supporting, administrative division of SNC Tahoe which delivers efficient, innovative, high-quality/high-value, educational off-campus academic programs designed to meet marketplace demands and/or needs assessments at the graduate and undergraduate level. The Vice President for Academic Extension is responsible for developing, resourcing, and implementing a vision for extended (off) campus operations that aligns with and supports the College’s mission and objectives. Working closely with academic units of the College, this position leads and manages the College’s existing academic extension centers, the development of additional centers primarily located on the campuses of community colleges, and also leads the development and resourcing of future programs/initiatives such as dual credit programs with K-12 schools as well as corporate training and education partnerships. In addition, the Vice President for Academic Extension provides oversight and leadership in growing online programs as well as the technology and services that support them.

This position reports directly to the President of the College and is a member of the College Cabinet.

Responsibilities

The inaugural Vice President for Academic Extension will be a strategic and innovative thinker, an entrepreneurial tactician, and a proven leader of both people and programs with a track record of turning vision into reality. In order to realize SNC Tahoe’s ambitious goals, SNC Tahoe requires a Vice President for Academic Extension who has significant and successful prior experience developing, implementing, managing, and scaling an educational enterprise delivered remotely from a principal campus.

The inaugural Vice President for Academic Extension collaborates closely with the academic leadership of the College to identify and deliver undergraduate and graduate programs, and other special programs such as: professional development, corporate training and education partnerships, and high school dual enrollment courses; via multiple delivery formats (face-to-face, flipped, hybrid, and online).

This position is responsible for supporting the delivery of academic programs to include: planning, marketing, budget, admissions, hiring and evaluation of staff, and support for faculty and courses.

Responsible for developing proposals/applications (for review and approval by the chief academic officer) to regional/institutional accrediting bodies as well as state higher education authorities for approval to offer academic extension courses and programs within a wide range of geographical locations.

The Vice President for Academic Extension identifies and secures external funding and other partnerships in support of SNC Tahoe programs delivered through Academic Extension and coordinates such efforts with the Vice President for Advancement.

This position is responsible for development and implementation of a short and long-range strategic plan for the growth of the SNC Tahoe Academic Extension system and achieving enrollment/revenue targets to include the identification of new geographical markets and the development of new SNC Tahoe community college-based centers.

Qualifications/Skills/Experience

Minimum: Master’s degree required and a minimum of 5 years of leadership experience in distance/extended campus or continuing education; higher education experience and demonstrated success in working with faculty, deans and directors from a wide variety of academic programs; and experience in developing innovative enrollment/revenue-generating programs.

Skilled at building high-achieving teams and being constituency/student centered. Maintains a passion for academic quality, changing lives, growing organizations, and the continuous pursuit of excellence.

A demonstrated track record and high affinity for achieving organizational objectives through strong, informal, collaborative relationships and interdependencies.

Sound fiscal and personnel management skills, excellent oral and written communication, creativity, self-direction, problem-solving and evidence/data-based decision-making skills are required.

Experience in the development and implementation of strategic plans for academic extension programs and the metrics used to track progress is required, as is a demonstrated track record for growing academic extension programs from an incipient stage.

A thorough understanding of community college operations and mission. Significant experience working within, or the development of partnerships with, community colleges is required, to include the development of articulation agreements.

Must have a demonstrated track record of success at developing and growing online programs and the systems that support them.

Thorough understanding of regional/institutional and programmatic/specialized accreditation criteria, standards and related processes, especially those applicable to the delivery of academic programs off of/away from a principle campus, and a successful track record of securing approval for expansion of academic extension programs from accreditors.

A thorough understanding of the profile, needs, and expectations of nontraditional/adult learners and significant experience designing, leading, and managing programs and services that meet the needs and expectations of adult learners.

A thorough understanding of criteria, standards and related processes associated with approval of higher education programs through state agencies/higher education systems.

Demonstrated track record of success at securing external funding in support of the development and operations in support of academic extension programs.

Significant experience in the development and growth of online programs is required, to include the implementation of best practices for the delivery of online programs and the technology that supports this effort, as well as the development and evaluation of models that provide for effective and efficient back-office operations, marketing, recruiting, and student/faculty support internally and/or through third-party providers.

Preferred: Doctoral degree plus six or more years of experience in distance education, continuing education and/or academic extension programs.
