South African Entrepreneur to Speak on Multiculturalism
January 27, 2010

Incline Village, NV – Emiley Vollmer, owner and chief executive of Evo Media Enterprises, a new-media design, 3-D animation, Web design, video production, post-production, and TV commercial agency, will be speaking at Sierra Nevada College on Thursday, February 11th, in the Tahoe Center for Environmental Sciences, room 139, from 7-9pm. Topics to be covered in her presentation include issues of diversity (South Africa as well as Africa as a whole), her multicultural experiences from a South African perspective, challenges that still exist, and the benefit of collaborative partnerships (such as with Sierra Nevada College) in terms of fostering greater multicultural awareness and understanding, as well as her own life story. Following her presentation, she will respond to questions posed by Dr. Lynn Gillette, SNC Provost. This event is free and open to the public.
Abandoned by her parents while in exile in Zambia, Vollmer was adopted by diplomats at a very young age, which afforded her the opportunity to travel the world, learn new languages (she is fluent in ten languages), and explore her passion for the arts. She was educated at several prestigious schools, including The Juilliard School in New York, SAE International, and the Fachochschule in Stuttgart, Germany. Vollmer’s skill in animation and design served as a stepping stone toward her becoming an entrepreneur and powerful businesswoman in international advertising. Her company, Evo Media Enterprises, has offices in Germany, Spain, and South Africa, and includes clients such as Mercedes Benz, Deutsche Bank, and Siemens. Vollmer has been awarded numerous honors, including The Changing Face of Africa award, the African Woman in Leadership award, and the Balears Film award. Among her several other business roles, Vollmer is founder and director of Run Way (a film school for underprivileged youth), Deputy Chairman of Cape Film Commission (2008), member of Cape Regional Chamber (2008), and Director of Yakamela (Pty) Ltd (2008).
Vollmer’s firm is one of the South African enterprises partnering with SNC on the Young Entrepreneurship Program (YEP), resulting from a grant awarded by the U.S. Department of State to the Northern Nevada International Center (NNIC) in partnership with Sierra Nevada College’s Croom Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership and International Studies programs, and the DAD Fund (a South African organization similar to Big Brothers/Big Sisters in the U.S.) to support the development of Young Entrepreneurs (YEPs) from South Africa.
