The Tahoe Center for Environmental Sciences (TCES) located on the campus of Sierra Nevada College, is a distinctive partnership between public and private institutions of higher education in two states, including Sierra Nevada College, the University of California, Davis (UC Davis), the Desert Research Institute (DRI) and the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR). The TCES provides a world-class center for scientific research in the understanding of alpine lakes and the preservation of the environmental quality of such important resources.
Through UC Davis, the TCES also houses the Thomas J. Long Foundation Education Center (TJLFEC) in the main atrium area on the first floor. Educational exhibits within the TJLFEC focus on a sixth grade audience, but also provide something for all ages. Exhibits provide information about why Lake Tahoe is unique and how science and research have been used, and continue to be used, to restore and protect Lake Tahoe for future generations.
