South America Snow Sessions hosts SNC Travel Courses
Program Description
Since July 2009, Sierra Nevada College is proud to offer summer courses in Bariloche, Argentina. Students from any college or university—and high school students age 15 or older—are eligible to receive college credit from SNC for courses taken during the program.
We have teamed up with South American Snow Sessions, an established and well-respected organization that has been hosting Ski and Snowboarding camps for young adults since 2004. SASS offers logistical know-how, years of networking with the winter sports community, and their beautiful campus near the Cerro Cathedral Snow Resort. SNC will operate an academic program for three sessions, in Fine Arts, Ski Business Management, and Outdoor Leadership on the SASS campus in Argentina, all taught by SNC faculty.
Students who enroll in SNC courses will co-enroll in the full-service SASS camp experience, which will provide them with room and board, transportation, winter sport coaching and cultural activities in the fantastic Argentinean Andes mountains and the Bariloche area.

Our academic program on the SASS campus is designed to work around the typical ski day. We expect that our students will also be taking full advantage of the Patagonian slopes, so all courses are offered in the late afternoon. One session consists of two full weeks and consists of approximately 45 hours of instruction both on the mountain and in the classroom. SNC has developed a new improved academic course schedule where a student can take all courses offered or a combination of your choice.

Registration Process
Students will complete a two-step registration process.
1) Visit the Sierra Nevada College Summer in Patagonia registration page. You will be guided through the registration, course selection, and financial aid processes from there.
2) Register as a SASS Camp participant and insure your space on the SASS Campus by visiting www.sasnow.com. You can complete the entire camp registration process online from their secure server.
During this two-step process, you will make two payments—a tuition payment directly to Sierra Nevada College, and a Program payment directly to South American Snow Sessions.
Financial Aid Process
Financial Aid may be available for those who qualify. To discuss the many different financial aid options available to defray the cost of tuition, travel, and room and board, please contact the Sierra Nevada College Financial Aid office at 775-831-1314 x7404.
The financial aid process works as follows:
SNC Students
If you are an SNC student, register for courses that bring you to at least half time attendance (6 credit hours). You can combine courses from your home school with SASS courses to reach 6 credits.
If you are enrolled in at least 6 credits you are eligible for Federal Student Aid and should contact the office of Financial Aid to determine what aid is available.
Non- SNC Students
Register for the intended courses at SNC that bring you to at least half time at your home institution.
Complete a consortium agreement between the Home School and the Host School (SNC). Contact the Financial Aid office at your home school to access the consortium agreement form. Once the Home School has completed the agreement they will then fax it to SNC (Host School) for required information and signature. SNC will then return the consortium agreement to the Home School and the student can access Financial Aid to be process at the Home School.
Transfer Credit Process
To receive credit at your current institution for the course(s) taken through Sierra Nevada College, you will need to have official transcripts sent. To order an official transcript, please complete the Transcript Request Form.
An Average Day
All students will be housed at the SASS campus in dormitory-style rooms. Coaches and Counselors from the SASS Camp Program live with campers on campus for the duration of each session, as do SNC Faculty members. This creates a vibrant community of athletic and academic exchange which inevitably spills over into the after-hours environment. A typical daily schedule for an SNC student will look like this:
The various 1-credit courses will meet in the mornings, on the mountain, and not during the afternoon Class times. Several of them (Mountaineering, Map and Compass, and Avalanche Certification) will include weekend excursions.
