Types of Gifts
Outright Gifts and Giving Annually
Outright gifts, usually in the form of cash, provide immediate value to students and faculty. These gifts may be unrestricted and used to support current needs identified by the executive leadership of the college; or restricted for scholarships, programs, and/or campus buildings. Outright gifts may also include stock, bonds, and mutual funds. Giving appreciated securities allows you to take advantage of tax incentives. Annual Giving is an opportunity to both contribute to and participate in the development and growth of Sierra Nevada College.
Pledges to Sierra Nevada College allow you to make a generous commitment over a designated time period. Payment schedules are personal and flexible and can be made in combination with our annual giving programs.
Many employers match their employees’ contributions to non-profit organizations. Please inquire with your employer’s human resources office about a matching gift program and increase the amount of your donation.
Note: Sierra Nevada College is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
Planned or Deferred Gifts
Through bequests and other planned gifts to Sierra Nevada College, you are choosing the ultimate gesture of commitment and sustainability to the mission and vision of our college. This generous gift shows that you understand the need to support Nevada’s only four-year private liberal arts college through estate planning, and planned giving allows you to make charitable gifts to Sierra Nevada College while you continue to meet your current income needs and take advantage of tax incentives.
Planned gifts include provisions for SNC in your will as bequests; gifts of retirement assets, stock or mutual funds, real estate, gift annuities, or life insurance; and gifts that create income for you. You can make a bequest to Sierra Nevada College through your will, trust, or retirement plan. Bequests allow you to transfer assets into a permanent source of support for SNC. Charitable gift annuity donors reduce capital gains taxes, garner income tax benefits, and provide long-term income for themselves or their loved ones while making gifts that can transform students’ lives.
By acknowledging Sierra Nevada College in your estate plan, you qualify for membership in the SNC Legacy Society. Becoming a member of this society affords you the opportunity to make sure your future gift is applied to the area of your choice, such as student scholarships, academic programs, or endowments. If you have identified Sierra Nevada College in your estate plan, please let us know so we may acknowledge you.
If you would like to discuss options for including Sierra Nevada College in your estate plan, please contact Aga Dabrowska, Director of Donor Relations, at 775-881-7589 or email email@example.com.
Endowments are opportunities to create named funds such as scholarships, professorships, internships, fellowships, special programs and faculty development funds that ensure the sustainability of these gifts. Endowment growth is critical both to the immediate success and long-term strength of Sierra Nevada College. The Development Office generates annual reports on endowment funds, illustrating how the donor’s gift has been used to support Sierra Nevada College and the particular requests of the donor.
Capital Gifts and Naming Opportunities
Capital gifts make certain future unrestricted income and provide for the construction and renovation of campus buildings. Larger gifts can also be directed toward naming opportunities, such as named scholarships, professorships, and programs.
SNC Alumni collaborate for their fifth, tenth, and twenty-fifth reunion classes to present class gifts to the college in honor of these important milestones. This is a wonderful opportunity for classmates to join together and expand their support for Sierra Nevada College by making a special commitment that will benefit the college for future generations. Class reunion gifts are extraordinary treasures for SNC.
Memorial gifts are opportunities to commemorate the life of a special person through donations in honor or in memory. These gifts may be designated through the SNC Associates, physical memorials on campus, naming opportunities, and endowed funds including scholarships, professorships, and programs.
Corporate and Foundation Gifts
In addition to gifts from alumni, parents, and friends, Sierra Nevada College also receives generous support from foundations, corporations, and other organizations that help the college maintain its commitment to being a leader in liberal arts education.
