On Tuesday, April 2, 2013, Steve Schmidt former senior advisor to the presidential campaign of U.S. Senator John McCain will speak in President Lynn Gillette’s Current Topics class from 4:00 to 5:15 p.m. Schmidt will address the most recent Presidential campaign and current political events, such as budget sequestration. The session will be held in Room 139/141 of the Tahoe Center for Environmental Sciences. The public is invited to attend.
Over his career Schmidt has worked on many significant campaigns, including the 2004 Bush presidential campaign and the 2006 re-election campaign for California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. He served as Deputy Assistant to George W. Bush and Counselor to Vice President Dick Cheney; he was the White House strategist for the U.S. Supreme Court nominations of Samuel Alito and Chief Justice John Roberts.
Highly sought after as a political analyst, he continues to be widely quoted on issues of current politics and is a regular contributor to Meet the Press, MSNBC, and other programs. Today, he serves as Vice Chairman, Public Affairs, for Edelman, one of the world’s largest public relations firms and regularly provides counsel to Fortune 500 companies.
