The Sierra Nevada College Tuolumne Meadows to Yosemite Valley weekend backpacking trip has returned safely to campus Sunday night Sept. 15th and was a big success. The ten participants, led by Dean of Students and Outdoor Adventures Director Will Hoida, completed a 26 mile semi-loop over the course of the three days, summiting both Cloud’s Rest and Half Dome on Saturday!
Despite a portion of Tioga Road being closed at the start of the trip due to the nearby Rim Fire, the group adapted their itinerary before leaving campus and simply chose to hike back up to their Tuolumne Meadows trailhead at Tenaya Lake to still make the trip possible. All nine students rated the outing as ‘excellent’ on their post-trip survey’s and noted highlights included climbing and descending the infamous Half Dome Cables (see photo), the 360 degree views from Cloud’s Rest (see photo), camping under the stars and swimming in both Sunrise and Tenaya Lakes.
If you missed this trip, SNC Outdoor Adventures will be returning to Valley this spring for their annual Yosemite weekend camping, biking and waterfall viewing trip.
