Sacramento Bee:  Sierra Nevada College, a private, four-year, liberal arts college, has a new president, it was announced Friday.

The board of trustees announced the appointment of Robert C. Maxson as president of the 40-year-old institution.

Maxson was president of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, beginning in 1984, a position he held for 10 years.

He served as president of California State University, Long Beach, from 1994 to 2006 and has been special assistant to the chancellor of the California State University system the past two years.

Maxson replaces Larry D. Large, who has served as interim president the lastpast 18 months. Large will continue to be a consultant for the college.

Sierra Nevada College offers degree programs in more than14 different fields. It also offers continuing education programs, a summer arts program and courses at satellite centers in Nevada.
