Four SNC students and Assistant Director of Student Affairs Holly Atkins spent the first weekend in November in the San Francisco Bay Area focused on quintessential San Francisco passions – technology, views, and, of course, FOOD!

The trip began at Google’s YouTube division in San Bruno. After lunch in the company cafeteria (felafel day) and a tour, the we visited the BrandLab, where we received a presentation on Programming Fundamentals; Building a Social Brand; Self-Branding; and Audience Development (how YouTube stars get such big audiences). Great information for budding entrepreneurs on how to how to utilize the tools of social media to their advantage!

The weekend was spent exploring by bike, foot, and ferry. We crossed the Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito by bike and came back through the Bay by ferry, passing Alcatraz. We walked along the waterfront, down Lombard Street (“the crookedest street in the world”, with spectacular views of the Bay Bridge and Coit Tower), around North Beach, and through Golden Gate Park, detouring up to the 60’s holdovers on Haight Street and back to the Japanese Tea Garden.

And, of course, we ate: grass-fed beef burgers; sustainable fish in Sausalito; pizza from imported Italian ovens; frozen treats made from organic, locally-sourced ingredients; classic turkey sandwiches. All in all, a unique experience.
