We deliver content, knowledge and pedagogical skills for teaching talented students who learn more quickly or learn in a different way than typical pupils.
Teaching talented students means understanding the definitions of giftedness and exploring how culture and ability levels affect the gifted learner. This master’s degree in Education builds skills sets that include evaluating linguistic and non-verbal behaviors, and classroom performances and exploring program design for gifted students, in and out of the classroom. As you learn to teach gifted students, you’ll study related issues such as parent education, school and community relations.
Your coursework will include the New Bloom’s Taxonomy. You’ll learn to define creativity, fluency, flexibility and originality as part of your training Your teaching education will examine creative problem solving, scientific inquiry, and models of thinking strategies and brain research as they relate to teaching gifted students.
In this master’s in Education program you will learn how to address the social and emotional needs of creative GATE students by observing them interact with instructors. You will also learn procedures for teaching gifted and talented kids to maximize their full potential. And finally, you’ll learn to teach talented students using frameworks and models for developing curriculum appropriate for their individualized needs and styles.
Graduates will be proven to comprehend concepts of gifted education, apply them in educational practice according to best practices, and demonstrate expertise through completing a Sustainable Education Project (SEP). The combined coursework that helps you become a better teacher also fulfills the Nevada State GATE endorsement requirement and is aligned with the INTASC Standards.
