The Role of a Liberal Arts Education
The goal of a great liberal arts college is to craft a curriculum to meet the goals above and ensure students are exposed to the best of human thought and ideals.
Studying the great thoughts, movements, and ideas throughout history develops students' abilities to understand the world around them and themselves. General education including the humanities, arts, sciences, and social sciences allows for a more inclusive education and gives our students' historical and social perspectives on our society's contemporary issues.
Students, parents, and the public in general often tend to focus solely on the role education plays in preparing students for jobs after graduation. However, unlike earlier periods of U.S. history, there is little or no life-long job security in any one career. Additionally, it is rare that any one career is able to provide all that individuals need to lead fulfilling lives.
