Barry Munitz – Vice-Chair of the Board
Barry Munitz is currently trustee professor at the California State University, Los Angeles, campus and chairman of the statewide P-16 Education Council in California. He serves on three Eli and Edye Broad family foundation boards (education, health, and art), is a corporate director at SallieMae, chairs the Finance and Investment Committee for the Cotsen Foundation, and heads the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation Advisory Commission. Dr. Munitz received a B.A. from Brooklyn College and an M.A. and Ph.D. from Princeton University. After teaching at U.C. Berkeley and serving as Clark Kerr’s assistant with the Carnegie Commission for Higher Education, he worked as academic vice president for the University of Illinois, chancellor of the University of Houston, and president of a Fortune 200 corporation. Recently he was president and chief executive officer of the Getty Trust and chancellor of the California State University—the nation’s largest system of senior higher education. Dr. Munitz chaired the American Council on Education Board and the California Education Roundtable, and was vice chair and the only White House appointee for the Congressional Commission on Higher Education.
