Job placement? This is a relatively new concept that will be implemented in earnest beginning with the 2008/09 school year as we finalize our relationships with our regional ski resort partners. Our goal in the coming years will be to bring the Human Resource Directors from the various resorts on campus to interview graduating students in a variety of entry level management opportunities.
Salary scale? Small department managers with few employees: $45-50,000 Larger department managers or directors: $50-60,000 Directors, including Food & Beverage, Retail, Lodging, Marketing, Risk/HR, Finance, Mountain Operations $70-100,000 CFO, Real Estate $125,000-175,000 President/GM/COO $150,000-200,000 CEO $200,000+
SNC versus Community Colleges? The community colleges with resort curriculum generally offer content on a lower level, such as specific department training. Sierra Nevada College has faculty with the valuable expertise needed to provide the high level courses in Resort Master Planning, Profit Center Management, Real Estate Development, General Management, Marketing and Sales. Sierra Nevada counts as its faculty and guest speakers the leading executives in the Lake Tahoe ski industry over the past 30 years.
Difference between Sierra Nevada College's SBRM and Sierra College's Medtronics? The Sierra College program focuses on specific skill positions within the industry, rather than resort management. The ski industry is in dire need of skilled labor in the area of vehicle, lift and electrical maintenance, and has created a partnership with the California Ski Industry Association to assist in the creation and teaching of these courses, as well as job placement after graduation. We anticipate many Sierra College graduates will continue their education at SNC to earn their bachelor’s degree in SBRM. Internships? SNC is developing an extensive internship program with the leading resorts in the area, including Diamond Peak, Mt. Rose, Northstar and Sugar Bowl. SNC students will have the opportunity to work in a variety of resort positions to gain a broad overview of the business and insight into specific areas they may wish to focus on after graduation.
