Sunday, June 21, 2009 to Saturday, June 27, 2009 |ONLINE REGISTRATION

SUSTAINABILITY...ECOSYSTEMS…GLOBAL CHANGE… RENEWABLE ENERGY...WHAT DOES IT ALL MEAN?

Interested in energy or the environment? Learn the pros and cons of energy sources. Model ecosystems and discuss their fragility. Tour water treatment facilities. Build, test, analyze, and evaluate the engineering design of an automobile. Discuss prototyping and testing methodologies. Explore Lake Tahoe and the Sierras. Learn the tips and tricks of technical presentations. Avoid bloopers in evaluating what your research actually shows. Use Microsoft Excel and other software as a tool for analysis.

Two Camp Options: The Environmental Camp is focused on environmental issues in the Lake Tahoe Basin ranging from forest fires and their  management to the water quality issues associated with ski areas and use of the basin for entertainment.  The Energy Camp focuses on renewable energy, energy efficiency and sustainability for man's purposes. Energy Camp participants will build alternative powered vehicles, tour local renewable energy sites, and learn how using renewable energy benefits the environment. The hands on activities vary by the two types of "products" and are basically applied geoscience versus applied physics as the focus.

With Lake Tahoe as your laboratory and guest lecturers from the University of Nevada, Reno, Desert Research Institute, the University of California, Davis, the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency, and Sierra Nevada College, you will be entertained and captivated. The seven-day camps are packed with activities, experiments, tours, lectures, and recreation.

  • Compare Field and Lab Results
  • Experiment with Water, Soil, and Air
  • Spend the Week with Like-Minded Teens

Learn if sustainability initiatives really make a difference. Find out about forest fire management and visit burn areas.
